About the Fashion Skin for DotNetNuke 5

Minimize

  • Designed with fashion or health and beauty related web sites in mind, but is also suitable for other themes.  Bold and stylish yet it still has a softer, inviting touch to it as well.   The graphics in the header were chosen for their suggestion of movement and flow, and the theme's colors are invigorating, too.
  • This skin is for Dotnetnuke 5 only and will not install or work properly in a Dotnetnuke 4x or earlier site.  The skin uses technology specific to DNN5 and depends on their presence, like the menu classes and the presence of jquery, and the new object based html skin and container tokens.
  • If you don't have a logo, use the Portal Name layout.  It will automatically insert the web site's name into the header as text in place of a logo image.
  • Many styles of containers, with and without titles.  Also, a set of capital letter .gif images is included  (see the "L" in the slogan area above).  These alpha's can be used instead of a container title for a stylish drop caps look.   The font used is Beautiful Caps ES, and the PhotoShop PSD file is included so you can use it as a model to create your own alpha's in a different font if you wish to.
  • The skin includes a set of icons to replace the normal Dotnetnuke icons.  The default Dotnetnuke icons are designed for light backgrounds, and this set of professional icons takes care of that problem (these will also work on light backgrounds, too, though).  Included are icons for rss feeds, print, user, save, password, search, required-text star, and help.
  • The Fashion skin for Dotnetnuke will expand seamlessly both horizontally and vertically to fit any size content.  The default is 870px wide, but can easily be changed to a custom size in the skin's CSS file.
  • The Blog Module is fully formatted as well, utilizing the CSS classes available in the blog version 3.4.0 or above.
  • Designed in html format and making use of DNN object token method to maintain a higher level of compatibility.
  • Tested in Internet Explorer, Safari, and Firefox.

What's New?

Minimize

There are quite a few noticeable changes in the Fashion skin for Dotnetnuke 5. The major changes are listed below.

  • The user interface has been given an "extreme makeover" to look even more stylish than before.
  • The menus are now multi-color menus creating a gradient effect in 5 colors. It will become lighter first then become darker again and then start over. It will cycle through up to the first 20 menu items, so if you have a lot of pages, no worries. The skin.css can be modified to handle more if necessary. All the skins have a multi-color menu including the Admin horizontal menu.
  • For those using the PortalName skin, a javascript font rendering engine has been employed to insert your website name automatically in a script font.
  • The containers also use the javascript font rendering engine to generate the module titles in a sleeker font.
  • The search input box has been redesigned with a new, more professional look.
  • The use of drop shadows throughout the skin have been added for a more dramatic, three dimensional look in the background, header, footer, and menu areas.
  • The menus have been converted to the new DNN Nav menus which are XHTML compliant, so the skins are now W3C valid. They do still contain tables in the layout structure, div's are used whenever possible, and your site will still validate.
  • The skin width was changed from a default 800px wide to a default of 870px wide to look better on modern 1024 resolution or higher monitors.  You can easily customize the skin width via the "skinmaster" class in the skin.css file.
  • The LeftPane has been moved into the general content area as content too wide under the menu would cause format problems with the menu area.  Don't worry, if you were using the that content pane, your modules will shift over with the LeftPane to the main content area. Data won't be lost during an upgrade of the skin if you install the Fashion II over the original Fashion skin.
  • The Admin skin has been updated with a wider content area and a horizontal menu.  Need more space for your content?  You can use the Admin skin as the default skin for your website, it doesn't have to be used only as Dotnetnuke 5's "Edit Skin".  The Admin skin will also automatically insert the logo or your website name depending on whether you've selected a logo or not in Dotnetnuke's Admin->Site Settings page.
  • The action icons have been updated to a new, sleeker look for the buttons (the rss feed, print, edit, and settings icons that appear at the bottom of a module).
